What effect will different kinds of salt have on the creation of crystals?

Hypothesis

I hypothesize that if I add various salts to borax mixture, then the crystal will become bigger, because salt speeds up crystallization process.

PROCEDURE

1.                 Collect all materials.

2.                 Put 3 tablespoons of borax powder in each cup.

3.                 Label cups with salt name and 1 no salt.

4.                 Add one half tablespoon of salt in each cup except the cup with no salt

5.                 Tie button with string to popsicle stick and ensure the button will not touch the bottom of the cup.

6.                 Boil about 6 cups of water up to boiling temperature.

7.                 Pour 1 cup of boiling water in each cup.

8.                 Stir water in each cup for 1 min.

9.                 Place the popsicle stick with button in the cups.

10.           Next day observe the size of each crystal.

11.           Remove the solution from each cup and boil again.

12.           Pour the boiling solution in the cup.

13.           Stir the solution for 1 min.

14.           Place the crystal back in the solution.

15.           Repeat steps 11-14 for 6 days.

16.           When the week is over remove crystals and dry.

17.           Measure size and weight.

CONCLUSION

After completing my experiment, the data proves that the hypothesis that salt speeds up the crystallization process is true ,because the crystals with any salt are bigger than the no salt crystal.

    The crystal with Morton-Lite salt was the largest.
